Online rummy players launch self-regulatory body
There’s a new entrant in the country’s universe of self-regulatory bodies – The Rummy Federation (TRF). TRF, launched by the online gaming industry on December 15 in Delhi, aims to utilise the individual learnings of the various companies in the industry and proactively adopt state-of-the-art practices from Western countries, where the industry is regulated.

Speaking to BusinessLine, Deepak Gullapalli, Chief Executive Officer, Head Infotech India, said: “We are excited to be part of The Rummy Federation, which is being launched with the specific purpose of self-regulating the online rummy industry. We will instil high standards on software integrity, responsible gaming and advertising, for the industry at large. This will help bring greater credibility and transparency to our industry.”

RummyCircle, Ace2Three, Junglee Rummy are the popular brands in the segment. Besides, new entrants are foraying into the sector. TRF aspires to be the gold standard of self-regulation for the online rummy industry and be an example for other online businesses, said an industry veteran.

According to Supreme Court judgments, rummy is a game of skill, and wagers are permitted while playing it. Parag P Tripathi, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court, launched the event.

Industry players provided an overview of the prospects of the online rummy industry, which is expected to grow 60-70 per cent annually. They said keeping the rules of play unchanged results in the online version retaining the flavour of thrill and skill.

A historical record of past games and use of certified and tested software make the experience more reliable, they claimed.
